Timber Distressing & Reclaimed Materials
Ty Cortright uses a variety of reclaimed material in his timberwork. As you may know, in some applications, it is exceedingly difficult to find the proper reclaimed timbers that both lend the proper old-world appearance and that maintain complete structural integrity. For these projects, Ty begins with a series of new Douglas fir beams and, using proprietary tools and an innovative artistic process that is both time- and labor-intensive, he replicates the appearance of reclaimed, distressed timbers.
To ensure the highest accuracy, Ty posts a photograph of an antique bridge or other structure, instructing his carpenters to craft timbers that resemble various and specific timbers from the structure.
The result is art in itself.
